Etymology
From Proto-Slavic *ǫgrъ (“creep, bug, larva”) + -ец (-ec). Cognate with Serbo-Croatian у̀грк (“larva of gadfly”), Slovene ọ̑grc (“pustula caused by a parasite”) and akin to Polish wągier (“comedo”), Czech uher (“pimple”).
