Etymology
The origin of the initial element вич- is unknown. The latter element -ку ultimately derives from Proto-Permic *kad, from Proto-Uralic *kota. Cognates include Komi-Zyrian вичко (vićko) and Komi-Permyak вичку (vićku). Compare also with Udmurt вуко (vuko, “mill”).
