Internationalism, likely borrowed from German Adsorption, first coined c. 1882. Compare English adsorption of the same origin.
At any rate, ultimately from the Latin roots Latin ad- (“to, towards”) + Latin sorbeō (“drink up”) + Latin -tiō (noun-forming suffix), literally “drinking-up/sucking-in towards”.
