From the name of a character of a web animation series first published in 2011. Originally used by pro-Putin internet activists to mock opposition supporters and then reclaimed by anti-Putin internet activists due to phonetic similarity to Пу́тин (Pútin).

     On its chest hung a sign saying "War criminal Pynya V. V.", on its head was glued a photograph of a person resembling Vladimir Putin, the president of the Russian Federation, with the word "Liar".
