Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ὠχρότης (ōkhrótēs), from the accusative singular τὴν (tḕn) ὠχρότητα (ōkhrótēta). Equivalent to ωχρ(ός) (ochr(ós), “pallid, pale”) + -ότητα (-ótita, “-ity, -ness”).
