σιαγών

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • σιηγών (siēgṓn) Ionic

Etymology

Connection with ψίομαι (psíomai, to chew) is semantically attractive, but the formation is quite unclear. Since an Indo-European origin is formally hardly possible, the word could well be Pre-Greek.
