Etymology

From Ancient Greek ὀθόνη (othónē, “sheet”), probably from a Semitic language (compare Hebrew אֵטוּן (ʾēṭūn, “fine linen”)), ultimately from Egyptian jdmj (“fine red linen”).[1][2]
