καρα- (kara-) + μπογιά (bogiá). Either borrowed wholly from Ottoman Turkish قره بویا (kara boya) or as a combination of both Ottoman Turkish قره (kara, “black”) + Ottoman Turkish بویا (boya, “paint”).
