Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἑστιατόριον (hestiatórion, “dining room, banqueting hall”), from Ancient Greek ἑστίᾶσις (hestíâsis, “a feasting”), ἑστιάτωρ, ἑστιατορ- (hestiátōr, hestiator-, “host of banquet”) + Ancient Greek -ιον (-ion, “genitive indicating "place of"”).[1]
