Etymology

Learned borrowing from Byzantine Greek ἀκριτικός (akritikós) from ἀκρίτ(ης) (akrít(ēs), frontier soldier) -from ἄκρα f (ákra, edge)- + -ικός (-ikós). Not to be confused with άκριτος (ákritos, thoughtless) and its root from κρίνω (kríno, I judge).
