From Λῐ́βῠς (Líbus) + -η (-ē), from the name of the Libu, a tribal people of North Africa, attested in Egyptian inscriptions of the 13th century BC as rbw
and as 𐤋𐤁𐤉 (lby) in later Punic inscriptions.
