Etymology

From Proto-Finnic *ükteksä toicta kümmentä. Equivalent to üheksa (nine) + teist (of second). Shortened from üheksateistkümmend ("nine of the second decade"), which is still evident in declension. Cognate with Finnish yhdeksäntoista.
