Éierchen
Luxembourgish
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [ˈɜɪ̯.ɐ.ɕən]
Etymology 1
From rebracketing of Néierchen, diminutive of Néier, archaic form of Nier (“kidney”). Perhaps reinforced by association with etymology 2 because kidneys may look like little ears. The neuter gender is secondary and due to the normal plural use. Compare German Nierchen (“kidney as food”).
Alternative forms
- Néierchen (archaic)
