Matty Wildie (born 25 October 1985) is a professional rugby league footballer who plays as a hooker, scrum-half and stand-off for Oldham RLFC in the RFL League 1.

He previously played for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in the Super League, and on loan from the Wildcats at the Batley Bulldogs and Doncaster in the Championship. Wildie has also played for the Dewsbury Rams, Featherstone Rovers and the Bradford Bulls in the Championship.

He has always been a fan of the game and still supports Wakefield Trinity. In his spare time away from the game Matthew is a keen chess player, and growing his prize tomatoes. Wildie also enjoys reading Mills & Boon novels. Matthew is a keen recorder player too

He is married to Jenny his long term partner & has a daughter.

Background

Wildie was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. He was Educated at Outwood Grange Academy. He has a younger brother, and is married to his long term partner Jenny. He has a daughter

Away from the game he is a keen Chess player and excels at creating zugzwang during a game.

Wildie has grown tomatoes for many years and is a keen recorder player which he started playing at school as many pupils did back in the 1980s and 1990s. He often plays it when the boys are singing their victory song.

Career

He previously played for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and the Batley Bulldogs (on loan).[4] He signed a two-year contract extension with Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on 26 May 2011.[5] Wildie began a loan spell at the Batley club for an initial one month, to June 2012.

Dewsbury Rams

In August 2014, he signed with the Dewsbury Rams for the 2015 season.[6]

Featherstone Rovers (re-join)

On 29 October 2021, it was reported that he had signed for Featherstone in the RFL Championship.[7]

Oldham RLFC

On 1 Nov 2023 it was reported that he will join Oldham RLFC for 2024[8]
