Gadarwara became a district in 2023. It was a city and municipality since 1867 in Narsinghpur district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Gadarwara's Toor Dal brand has a unique identity in the country[1] Gadarwara Civil Court was established here before independence

Geography

Gadarwara is located at 22°55′N 78°47′E / 22.92°N 78.78°E / 22.92; 78.78.[2] It has an average elevation of 354.77 metres (1,163 feet). City has a monsoon climate. Gadarwara is 58 km from the Tropic of Cancer and is located in the south on the map of the state. The town is situated 4.5 km from the banks of the Shakkar River. The larger Narmada River is 12 km away. Shakkar River decides the boundary of the urban and police station of Gadarwara. In the south is the Satpura mountain range.

Climate

Gadarwara has a humid subtropical climate typical of north-central India (Madhya Pradesh and southern Uttar Pradesh). Summer begins in late March, lasting until June. May is the hottest month, with the average temperature exceeding 45 °C (113 °F). Summer is followed by the southwest monsoon, which lasts until early October and produces 35 inches (889 mm) of rain from July to September. Average annual precipitation is nearly 55 in (1386 mm). Winter begins in late November, and lasts until early March. January is the coldest month, with an average daily temperature near 15 °C (59 °F).

Railway

Gadarwara is connected to Howra- Mumbai railway line. Which is 128 km southwest of the headquarters of West Central Railway. Its station name is Gadarwara and its station code is GAR. There are stops for passengers, express, and super trains. Due to this Gadarwara is connected to all parts of the country. The nearest junction is Itarsi junction which is 117 km from Gadarwara by rail.

Roadway

State Highway 44 passes through the city of Gadarwara.

The nearest Dumna airport from Gadarwara is Jabalpur 160 km and Bhoj airport of the state capital Bhopal is 203 km.

Demography

In 1901, town population was 6,198 under the Maratha Empire. Population rose to 25,529 in 1991, 37,861 in 2001, 1,05,726 in 2011 and 1,25,068 in 2019.[3]

The town of Gadarwara is connected to villages from all sides with agricultural occupation, so the economy of the town is in contact with agricultural activities. There are other businesses as well because of better accessibility. All nationalized banks have branches in the city. In other economic activities, there are employed people who work in government and private sector.
