East Rembo, previously known as Barangay 15, is a barangay in Taguig, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is one of the eight barangays collectively known as the Embo barangays. Previously part of Makati, it borders West Rembo on its north, the city of Pasig on its east, Bonifacio Global City in Fort Bonifacio on its west, and Comembo on its south.[1]
History
East Rembo traces its origins to the colonial-era settlement of Malapadnabato, originally a part of Pateros.[2]
East Rembo was established in 1954 when the Philippine Air Force authorized the construction of barrios for the reserved military serving in the armed forces who were living in Fort Bonifacio. East Rembo is the heart of the three barangays of West Rembo, Comembo and Pembo. These settlements were named after EMBO, which means "Enlisted Men's Barrio''
East Rembo is claimed to be a self-sustaining community because it did not receive any assistance from the military administration. The military administration of the barrio only began in 1956. In 1965, it was transferred to the administration of Pateros through Proclamation No. 481 issued by President Diosdado Macapagal.[3] In 1986, it was turned over to the administration of Makati.[4] In 2023, as a result of a Supreme Court ruling, it was among the ten barangays turned over to Taguig that won its boundary dispute with Makati.[5]
Landmarks
Like every barangay in Makati, it has its own parish church, named the Mater Dolorosa Parish.[6]
