Bina-Etawa, shortened to Bina, is a city in the Sagar district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The name Bina-etawa is derived from the Bina River flowing nearby the city. Four more rivers are flowing through the surrounding area of the city. Motichur (Katra temple of the city situated on this river), Betwa (separate the borders of Bina and Ashoknagar district), Narayani (Naren Between Bina and Lalitpur), and Silar. Bina-etawa is an emerging as well as fastest growing city of MP.The Development in City going to be all around in the city as well as outside of City.The city is an important center of economic and industrial activities for the state;a Major Oil Refinery(BPCL Bina Refinery,formerly known as BORL-Bharat Oman Refinery limited) that is located in Bina.[2] This region is known for its high-quality wheat which is exported internationally.[3]
Bina also contains an Important railway junction.Delhi-Mumbai,Lucknow-Chennai, Jhansi-Ujjain,and Katni-Kota routes passes through Bina Railway Junction. The junction station is located in Main city & beside of this,one another suburb station is also located outside of city is Bina-Malkhedi Junction,apart from that 3 more suburb under-developed stations are also in nearby to City, they are Mahadeokhedi junction(on Guna-Kota line),Bina-Agasoud junction (on Jhansi-kanpur line), karond junction (Bina bypass cabin on Malkhedi-Mahadeokhedi-Agasoud junction chord line). Mandibamora railway station are also comes under Bina suburb station of Bhopal division.
Bina is situated near sites of cultural and historical interest, which include EranBhopal(the capital of Madhya Pradesh),Vidisha(old bhelsha ancient city),Sanchi(the stupa of king Ashoka)and Chanderi (the silk sarees of Chanderi).
Bina-Etawa is close to the ancient city of Eran, situated along the bank of the Bina River. Eran was the capital of Airikina Pradesha/AirikinaVishaya, an administrative division of the Gupta empire. This city is also the center point of Bhopal (capital of MP) and Jhansi (gateway of Bundelkhand). It is among the oldest cities in the region and the oldest town in MP.
History
Bina was formerly known as Etawa, the name of the village earlier in the area. In 1923, the Bina Railway Junction was founded, with its name derived from the Bina River that flows nearby. The First MLA of this Vidhansabha was Ram Lal Nayak from INC. The new name was chosen to remove any ambiguity between Itawa (located in Uttar Pradesh) and Etawa. Later, administrative documents began using the name Bina-Etawa, which led to the renaming the city as Bina-Etawa.
Located near the city, the Khimlasa Fort is a location of historical interest. Khimlasa Fort is said to have been founded by a Mohammedan noble and was the mahal in the sarkar of Raisen of the subah of Malwa. The town of Khimlasa is enclosed within a fortified wall built of stone rubble.[4]
Industry and economics
Bharat Oman Refinery Limited owns a major oil refinery near Bina, "the only petroleum refinery in Central India [with a capacity of] 7.8 MMTPA".[2] Bina Refinery has adopted technologies designed to process Arab Mix crude (65% Arab Light and 35% Arab Heavy). It also had the flexibility to process other types of Middle East crude. The project also includes a Coke-based Captive Cogeneration Power Plant of 99 MW (33 x 3).[5]
Bina Thermal Power Plant is also under construction. A section of the power plant currently operates with a capacity of 500 MW, although this will scale up to 1200 MW when the plant reaches full capacity. The construction of a cement manufacturing plant has been proposed by the JAYPEE group in Bina.[6] A 1200kV National Test Station is also located in Bina.[7]
The regional government of Madhya Pradesh plans to build an investment corridor between Bina and Bhopal, naming it the Bina-Bhopal Investment Corridor. Through this project, an investment of around $1 billion (USD) is expected to upgrade local industry, subsidizing the production of electrical equipment, fabricated metal, machinery, and equipment. Along with it, integrated township projects were also proposed near the city.[8] Bina's first solar power plant, which will be used for operating railway train and also in the lightning system for Bina junction, was also established in 2020. The Memu (Mainline electric multiple units) Car Shed for operating local Memu trains in Madhya Pradesh and nearby states is also established in Bina Junction by WCR zone Bhopal division for smooth transportation of railway trains in this area in 2021.
The region also has agricultural produce processing units and agrarian machinery manufacturing plants. Also, 7 Railway overbridges will be constructed in Bina Etawa city, in which 1ROB has been completed. The other's 3ROB work is ongoing, and construction of another 3 ROB will be started by the end of this year. Also, one new railway medical College is to be proposed, and one bigger hospital will be built by next year in City. Another essential thing is that the law college is also offered for the last five years; previously, it was operated as a degree college. Still, later it was suspended, but again according to the new proposal, it will be built by next year and start by the same year. One University was also proposed in last ten years (upgradation of govt Degree college into a University) in Bina-Ottawa city and district.
Geography
Bina-Etawa is situated at 24°10’ N latitude and 78°10’ E longitude at about 412 m above sea level. The Bina (river), India, and Betwa Rivers are the major sources of water in the area. The agricultural land consists primarily of black soil.[9]
Climate
The winter season lasts from November until the middle or late February, and the summer season lasts from March until mid-June. The minimum temperature recorded in the city is 1 °C in January. The maximum temperature is 48.0 °C. Average precipitation is around 1235/mm annually. In the monsoon season, the wind direction is from the south-west; in winter, the wind direction is from the city's northeast.[3]
Education
Bina-Etawa has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average. Bina has two important centers for higher education: a government college for post-graduate and graduate courses and a government girls' college providing graduate courses for girls. Recently one Govt.law college has been inaugurated nearby to City for law courses and very soon it will be come in action for study of law for students, one University is also proposed for higher education and one Medical College of railway (by upgrading railway hospital into medical College) will be opened by next year, many private colleges (B.ed) & ITI's are also operated in City for students. One government ITI and one private nursing college is also established in City, apart from that one private MBA college (GNiMR-Gomti Nandan institute of management and research) is also running it's courses in city. Kendriya Vidyalaya and Nirmal Jyoti Senior Secondary School are two important high schools in the region. In addition of this Bina public higher secondary school is also running in City for students.Three state government Schools provide education for the city's students.apart from that one Govt.model higher secondary school are established in City. One CM Rise High school is also proposed in city for Village area students, Some private schools also operate in the city, Now-a-days many private English medium school's were established in City from last 4–5 years.
Religious sites
The main religious site in Bina-Etawa is the Shri Katara Swami, a temple of Lord Hanuman.
The city is home to several temples and other historical sites. There are many Hindu temples like Jatashankar temple, Gayatri temple, Moti Maharaj temple, Shani Dev temple, Hare Ram temple, Maruti Hanuman temple, and Panchmukhi temple (Nai basti).
Jain temple like nabhinandan digambar Jain (old as much as 1000 years), Mandir shantinath digambar Jain Mandir, Taaran Taran digambar Jain Chityalay, Kund-kund Digambar Jain temple. Nisai Ji, a Digambar Jain temple, is located near the bank of river Betwa. The samadhi state of Aacharya Shri Taaran Taran muni (founder of Taaran Panth of Jainism) is located at this place.
Anekant Gyan Mandir, a Jain center, preserves some of the oldest manuscripts related to Jainism (the organisation also created electronic copies of these manuscripts).[10] Shrutdham temple for Jain religion is also an attraction for Jains
In popular culture
Some scenes of Raj Kapoor's Bollywood movie Teesri Kasam (1966) were filmed at or nearby this town.[11][12]
