Aryal (also written as Arjel,Arjyal, Ariyal) is a Nepali surname of Khas Brahmin and Khas Chhettri. In Hinduism, they are believed to be the descendants of Sage Atreya. Varaha (Nepali: वराह) is the deity of the Aryal clan.[1] Aryal belongs to the Atreya(descendant of Atri rishi) gotra.[2] Aryal played an important role during unification of Nepal.Narayan Das Arjyal/Aryal was Dravya Shah Spiritual tutor. He helped him during annexation of Gorkha Kingdom. The responsibility to educate king Prithvi Narayan Shah was given to Mokchyeshwor Aryal and Bhanu Aryal. They were the Upadhyayas who worked in the palace as astrologers, where they were also known as Jyotishi or Jaisi.Aryal is a part of Thar ghar of Gorkha Kingdom.
