Adam Dahlberg, known online as SkyDoesMinecraft, Sky Does Everything and NetNobody, is an American YouTuber mainly known for formerly producing family-friendly content related to Minecraft. First joining the platform in 2011, Dahlberg signed a deal with Machinima, Inc. at an unknown time and joined a group of YouTubers known as Team Crafted (later rebranded to Vision Squad). Dahlberg reached ten million subscribers by 2015, and was one of the most popular channels on YouTube at that time.
In 2017, Dahlberg retired from Minecraft content to pursue music creation, criticizing the community and stating their uncomfortability with continuing to create family-friendly content. At an unknown point, Dahlberg would have a child with an unknown partner. In 2022, they were accused by their ex-partner of abuse and manipulation, prompting Dahlberg to attempt to sell their channel later that year. No offers to purchase the channel were made, and in 2023 Dahlberg resumed uploading content to their channel, though with less focus on content creation.
Career
Dahlberg first started creating YouTube content in 2011, when they were a teenager.[3] They primarily created content on Minecraft, including gameplay and music videos; their most viewed video was a parody of Coldplay's "Paradise" titled "New World".[4][5] At an unknown point in time, Dahlberg signed a deal with Machinima, Inc.[6][4] Most of Dahlberg's content was noted to be family-friendly.[3] Furthermore, Dahlberg was a member of a group known as Team Crafted,[7] which consisted of other Minecraft YouTubers whom would all collaborate with eachother and was founded in 2013. In 2016, the team was rebranded as Vision Squad.[8] Dahlberg also appeared in the music video for Lady Gaga's 2014 single G.U.Y.[7] In August 2014, it was reported that the Food and Drug Administration had hired Dahlberg to produce an anti-smoking video using Minecraft.[4]
By 2015, Dahlberg had amassed ten million subscribers on YouTube,[2] and at the time they were one of the most popular YouTubers. In September 2015, Business Insider reported that Dahlberg had become the 11th most popular YouTuber on the site with 11.3 million subscribers.[9] Earlier that year, toys produced by Jazwares based on Dahlberg's Minecraft avatar were sold in stores such as Toys "R" Us.[3][10]
In July 2017, Dahlberg announced in two different videos that they were retiring from making Minecraft content, stating that they had become unhappy with the state of the game's community over the past couple of years and that they were no longer comfortable making family-friendly content. They stated that they would be moving content creation to a new, music-focused channel known as "NetNobody", and that the SkyDoesMinecraft channel would be converted into "a portal for community creations", with creators of the creations being able to earn a percentage of revenue generated by the video; YouTube-tracking website Social Blade estimated each video published on the channel to generate thousands of dollars.[3]
In September 2023, Dahlberg announced that they would return to uploading content onto the SkyDoesMinecraft channel (now known as Sky Does Everything), though with less of a focus on content creation.[11]
Personal life
Dahlberg was born on January 17, 1993 and is a resident of Washington, United States.[12][13] They identify as non-binary, and use they/them pronouns.[14] They had one child with an unknown ex-partner at an unknown time.[14]
In 2016, Dahlberg revealed that they had been suffering from bulimia nervosa for three years and had been frequently criticized for their eating habits. They stated that the disorder had taken a toll on their mental and physical health, as well as causing other side effects such as tooth decay. They then announced that they would be spending a few months at a clinic in Washington to be treated, and that from that point onward, ten percent of their merchandise sales would be donated to clinics dedicated to treating those disorders.[15]
Abuse allegations
In January 2022, Dahlberg's ex-partner, who went by Elizabeth and didn't publish any further details for her safety, published a letter onto iCloud accusing Dahlberg of abusing and manipulating her. In the letter, Elizabeth referred to Dahlberg with he/him pronouns instead of they/them, accusing them of frequently disrespecting the LGBTQ+ community as well as calling her numerous slurs. Alongside the letter, Elizabeth published a thread on Twitter revealing that Dahlberg was placed into protective custody by the Bellevue, Washington Police Department on February 15, 2021 with Dahlberg being described as a "threat to others" by officers. Additional allegations made in the letter and thread included Dahlberg cheating on her, pressuring her into having a child and proceeding to neglect the pregnancy, and racism.[14] When requested to comment on the allegations by DramaAlert, Dahlberg commented that it was "a mix".[14]
Following the allegations, Dahlberg placed the SkyDoesMinecraft and "Sky Vs Games" channels up for sale on Fameswap in June 2022, with SkyDoesMinecraft having a price of $900,000.[16] Each were advertised as being wiped of all content upon being sold, and promoted as having permissions to livestream and monetize content; it was noted by Rich Stanton of PC Gamer that the selling of a YouTube channel that was monetized was against the YouTube terms of service. No offers were made to purchase either of the channels.[16]
