Elections to Manchester Council were held on Thursday, 4 May 2000. One third of the council was up for election, with each successful candidate to serve a four-year term of office, expiring in 2004. The two Independent Labour candidates stood again as "Peace 2000 England's Republican". Overall turnout fell slightly to 20.5% and the Labour Party retained overall control of the council.[1][2]
