Hi! My name is Abby, and I am a second year design major at UC Davis. I am pursuing experiential design, which I would love to tie in with my extracurricular work.
I love music, and most of my work outside of class has been in concert production. I am the Productions Director of UC Davis’s Entertainment Council, which means I handle the technical and business aspects of many of the mid-sized concerts and events we put on. I also work with Vecino Lemonade to put together epic indie shows for the Silicon Valley youth, and I do everything from coordinating logistics between bands and the venue, to stage design, graphic design, and even emceeing. I also work as an intern with Chelsea Music Festival in New York.
When I am working in the productions realm of these experiences, I am dealing with a lot of equipment. Sometimes, this equipment is very old or faulty; I have encountered quite a few mixers/speakers/stands labeled “sus” or “don’t use”. It would be awesome to learn how to repair some of this equipment, because even fixing something as simple as a few mic stands could save lots of money. I hope that being a part of the iFixit community will help me gain some skills, confidence, and savviness around repairs so I can bring this into my job!
