Background
Hello! My name is Jennifer Maier. I'm a senior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University - Daytona Beach. At ERAU, I major in Aeronautics with minors in Air Traffic Control, Meteorology, and an additional concentration in Aircraft Dispatching.
I came into this degree program after transferring from a previous university where I was a full-time Meteorology student. After gaining experience in the realm of meteorological research, I realized I had more interest in aviation weather.
Down the road, my plan is to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree and Aircraft Airman’s Dispatch Certificate. From there, I hope to become employed as a dispatcher by a regional airline and then later on with a major airline.
Skills
I hold specialist certificates for Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2010. While these versions of the Microsoft Office product have been replaced with newer ones, the same basic skills are needed to be proficient for each new update.
Projects
As part of an Weather Instrument Systems class, I created a working electric anemometer. It was constructed out of a small DC motor and metal coffee scoops. I was able to obtain readings by connecting a telephone cable to the DC motor and then connecting the cable to a basic multimeter. Using some conversion factors obtained through a calibration circuit, I was able to convert volts to miles per hour and knots.

Looking at this technical project, I believe I am going to gain awesome hands-on experience in technical repair. I don’t have any prior experience repairing or fixing any type of instrument or electronics. I’ve only ever constructed. So this will be a unique opportunity for me to explore something totally new.
