Hallo, ich bin Fabian Neidhardt und von 2019 bis 2024 habe ich für iFixit alles, was es auf Deutsch geben sollte, übersetzt: Anleitungen, Teardowns, Artikel und Blogposts. Jetzt bin ich nur noch aus Spaß hier.

Als Kind wollte ich Müllmann und Erfinder werden. Eine gute Kombination, wie ich fand. Aus dem, was andere wegschmeißen, neue Dinge schaffen.

Ich habe einen Vater, der immer erstmal alles selbst probiert und nur, wenn er wirklich nicht weitergekommen ist, jemanden anruft. Und meine Mutter kommt aus Osteuropa, damals hielt es dort niemand für nötig, Englisch zu lernen.

Was konnte aus mir anderes werden als ein Tüftler und jemand, der versucht, die Dinge des Internets noch mehr Menschen zugänglich zu machen.

In der Schule habe ich mit dem Schreiben und dem Geschichtenerzählen begonnen. Danach bin ich zum Radio in Stuttgart und habe mein Volontariat zum Redakteur und Moderator gemacht. Das wurde aber irgendwann langweilig, also habe ich Sprechen studiert, an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart. Und dann nochmal Schreiben am Literaturinstitut Hildesheim. 2019 habe ich die Serienschule als Storyliner für die UFA absolviert.

Ich hatte einen Vater, der mir schon als Kind gezeigt hat, wie die Dinge funktionieren und was wir tun können, dass sie es länger tun. Ob Schreibmaschinen, alte Autos, Computer oder sonstige Haushaltsgeräte. Wenn etwas nicht mehr richtig funktioniert, bastel ich daran rum.

Um 2006 habe ich mein 12” iBook G4 mit Hilfe von iFixit aufgeschraubt, die Festplatte ausgetauscht und ihn wieder zusammengeschraubt. 42 Schritte, die es wert waren. Dieses Hochgefühl, wenn man einen Gutschein einlöst, das habe ich, wenn ich etwas vor der Müllhalde rette. Und wenn das nicht geht, dann bastel ich etwas neues daraus. Meine alte iPod-Dockingstation hat einen Bluetooth-Adapter spendiert bekommen und aus einer alten NES habe ich einen Prosarotober gebaut.

Wenn ich selbst nicht schreibe oder spreche, gebe ich Workshops und coache Menschen darin, ihre Geschichten besser zu erzählen. Sonst gebe ich Führungen in Museen, verheirate Menschen als freier Trauredner, halte Vorträge und schreibe Romane.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a garbage man and an inventor. A good combination, I thought. Create new things out of what others throw away.

I have a father who always tries everything himself first and only calls someone when he's really stuck. And my mother comes from Eastern Europe, at that time no one there thought it necessary to learn English.

What could I become but a tinkerer and someone who tries to make things on the Internet accessible to even more people.

I started writing and storytelling in school. After that I went to a radio station in Stuttgart as a trainee to become an editor and host. But that got boring at some point, so I studied the art of speaking at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts. And then Literary Writing at the Literature Institute in Hildesheim. In 2019, I learned how to be a storyliner for UFA.

I had a father who showed how things work and what we can do to make them last longer. Whether it was typewriters, old cars, computers or other household appliances. If something doesn't work right anymore, I tinker with it.

Around 2006, I unscrewed my 12" iBook G4 with the help of iFixit, replaced the hard drive, and screwed it back together. 42 steps worth of fun. My old iPod docking station got a bluetooth adapter and I built a prose robot out of an old NES.

When I'm not writing or speaking, I give seminars and coach people on how to tell their stories better. Otherwise, I give tours in museums, marry people as a freelance wedding officiant, give talks, and write novels.
