Introduction

Hello, this is a partial teardown of the PowerEX MH-C980. The OEM fan was too loud for me so I took it apart to investigate.

    • Remove the 4 adhesive rubber feet. Then remove the 4 screws.

    • Take the bottom plastic cover off. It just comes off, no tabs or any glue. Remove the fan cable from the main board.

    • Remove fan by removing the adhesive tape from the fan cable. Then remove the 4-rubber feet stickers holding the fan into the bottom case. Then pull the fan out. Fan PN is FD-4007HH12C. Made by Titan.

    • Fan measures 40x40x7mm. Takes 12V at 0.18A. 2.16 Watts. RPM of 6500. 7.68 CFM. 0.11 INCH-H2O. <28.7 NOISE (DBA).

    • There is not room for a 10mm tall fan due to the electrical contacts that come out of the bottom of the board. The only other fan that might work is a 6mm tall fan from Orion Fans (PN OD4006-12HSS)

    • Charger seems to work just fine without the fan installed, but then the components and your batteries may get hotter than the OEM intended. (fan was too loud for me).

thanks for having a look. i have a few of these, and agree the fan is too loud, esepcialy to use on a film set. any luck with a replacement? i tend to not use turbo mode anyway, so maybe just unhooking the fan will be fine.
