Introduction

In this guide I will be explaining how to remove the back panel of a laptop in order to clean the fans. I will be using everyday objects everyone has in their home so that anyone can follow along. The required materials are an old toothbrush or soft cloth for cleaning the fans, a small screwdriver and a small container for holding the screws. I will be using a small piece of paper towel to put the screws on, anything similar will work.

Before you do anything else, you want to make sure that the laptop is powered off and not plugged in to charge. You should prepare your workspace by clearing a space on a desk or table large enough to fit the laptop and your tools.

  1. The first step is to take your screwdriver and remove all 13 screws keeping the back panel in place. After every screw is removed and placed in or on something where you won't lose it, carefully life up the back panel off of the laptop.

  2. Gently brush each blade of the fans with your toothbrush or soft cloth. If your cleaning tool starts to get too dirty, wipe off any dust with a dry cloth or grab a new, clean cloth or toothbrush.

  3. Carefully place the back panel onto the laptop and gently press down along the edges until you hear a click. One the panel is secure and not moving around, put every screw back into place and screw them in.

  4. Finally, after the laptop is put back together, turn it on and check if it is still functional.
