Introduction

Follow this guide to learn how to replace a Triceps Pushdown Cable in a Life Fitness Signature Series Multi-Jungle Triceps Pushdown MJTP. Frequent use can cause gym cables to fray and eventually snap. Allowing cables to get to that point is dangerous and not very enjoyable for the gym member getting their workout in. Let's fix it.

    • Gym cables can become frayed with overuse, becoming dangerous for the user. So, let’s fix it.

    • Purchase a new cable to replace the old one.

    • I bought my cable from Life Fitness, but other verified gym suppliers carry the cable.

    • Remove the pulley at the back of the Triceps Pushdown.

    • In order to remove the pulley and the pulley covers from the boom, you’ll need two separate Allen wrenches.

    • You'll use each Allen wrench on either side to remove both pulley covers.

    • Use the left side to stabilize the nut while using the right to take out the screw.

    • The left pulley cover will fall off as soon as the screw is out; you'll need to pull the right side off.

    • The pulley will fall out once the screw (and the right pulley cover) are no longer in place.

    • Use an adjustable wrench to remove the lock nut.

    • Rotate the lock nut up with your fingers.

    • Don’t worry about moving the lock nut up entirely.

    • Remove the lock nut once you get the cable from the head plate.

    • You will need to use this lock nut again with the new cable.

    • Pull the cable up through the Triceps Pushdown.

    • It will fit through the front pulley without removing the pulley or the pulley covers.

    • Slide the new cable through the front pulley.

    • The pulley itself will help as it turns and guides the cable through.

    • Guide the cable down the still empty back boom.

    • Separating the end of the cable can help guide the cable back down.

    • Screw the cable back into the head plate.

    • You don’t need to worry about tightening the lock nut as long as the cable itself is screwed in.

    • Start putting the back pulley back together.

    • Put the pulley inside the boom.

    • Make sure the cable is on top of the pulley. The cable needs to run through the groove.

    • Place the right pulley first.

    • Align the bites with the built-in groves

    • Push the screw through the pulley to the right side.

    • You'll need to align the pulley cover and the pulley inside the boom in order to push the screw through.

    • Use both Allen Wrenches to tighten the screw back into place.

    • Rotate the lock nut down to the bottom of the cable.

    • Use your adjustable wrench to tighten the lock nut until it’s locked into place.

    • Clip on your favorite Triceps Pushdown attachment, and you're done!
