Introduction
If your Land Yachtz longboard isn't turning well or you find that you can't adjust the tension of your trucks, your board kingpin may be damaged or faulty. Use this guide to replace the faulty kingpin and get your board back into good shape.
The kingpin is essential in turning the board with your body weight and allowing the user to effectively control their movement. If it is faulty, the board will not do its job and injury can result.
This ten-step guide will show you how to replace the kingpin without potentially damaging other parts of the longboard and allow for a better ride.
Tools
-
-
Use a 3/8" socket wrench, adjustable wrench, or skate tool to take off all 4 of the screws holding the truck to the board.
-
-
-
Use a skate tool or a 1/2" socket wrench to remove the wheel nut and take the wheels off of the truck.
-
-
-
Take off the first nut securing the axle of the truck to the kingpin.
-
Remove the axle of the truck from the truck fastener.
-
Remove the second nut securing the kingpin in place.
-
-
-
Put the nut that secures the kingpin back in place.
-
Put the axle back on the truck and kingpin.
-
Put the final nut back onto the kingpin to secure it to the axle.
-
-
-
Reattach the truck to the skateboard using Phillips #1 screwdriver and 3/8" socket wrench or skate tool to screw the nut back on the screw.
-
Test out your longboard and make sure that you can tighten and loosen the trucks effectively. Take it for a ride and make sure that turning works as you expect it to. If the problem persists, double-check to make sure that everything is put on correctly and the nuts are all securely fastened.
