Introduction

This guide documents how I ended up replacing the motor of my 3 year old Tumble dryer AEG Lavatherm Exclusiv Protex Plus Model: T97689IH3 Type: TC12H6THP Prod. No.: 916 097 440 06

When running, the tumble dryer is very noisy. It sounds a bit like metal scraping against metal. It is a bit disappointing to see this kind of problems in a 3 year old machine.

Before I started out I looked up several resources on the internet. e.g.:

Warning: make sure you disconnect the tumble dryer from mains whenever you touch anything inside, and also beware that the capacitors are likely charged, so you may want to discharge them.

    • Before you begin, disconnect the dryer from the power socket. Be careful not to touch any large capacitors—they can electrocute you. You can manually discharge them by making a discharge tool.

    • Bring the tumble dryer into service mode by following the instructions in this video: https://youtu.be/MPirZGgntmE

    • By spinning the drum using service mode #3, and by simply turning the drum by hand, you can hear that something is not right. I suspect that it has to be a faulty bearing, or worse: the motor itself. https://youtu.be/v1mC68JpMK4

    • To further narrow down the problem, you should lift the belt of the drive shaft. https://youtu.be/5y6D12VbnWw

    • With the belt lifted of the drive shaft and running test mode, it is clear that the motor is the source of the noise. https://youtu.be/7E6duSL5qig

    • The motor is labelled: Nidec db085d50e00 cl.180 P/N: 807252401
