Introduction

This will serve as a walk-through in the disassembly and repair of a blower motor for any Goodman branded home furnace.

    • Ensure all power cables are disconnected from the unit and/or wall prior to attempting this guide.

    • Gloves are highly recommended to avoid injuries from any sharp edges.

    • Unscrew the two screws located on the rear side of the unit.

    • Remove the doors and set them aside.

    • A 3/8" screwdriver will be the easiest method of completing this step.

    • It is strongly advised that you take a picture of the wire configuration prior to removal for reference when connecting the new motor.

    • Disconnect the brown wire from the top of the motor.

    • Disconnect the second brown wire from the bottom of the unit.

    • Remove the white, blue, red, orange, and black wires from the controller board.

    • Unscrew both screws connected the motherboard to the cylindrical motor container.

    • The screws are located on top and bottom sides of the plate holding the motherboard.

    • Unscrew the cylindrical motor housing from the unit.

    • There are two screws located at each side of the top corner of the container.

    • Grab the motor container with two hands and pull it out of the unit.

    • Place the motherboard to the side.

    • Turn the motor container on its side, with the wires pointing up.

    • Unscrew the 3 screws attaching the motor to the housing.

    • Take the yellow wire out of the screw.

    • Use a wrench to remove the bolt from the shaft of the motor, located on the opposite side.

    • If rust has accumulated on the motor shaft, you may wish to use sandpaper to remove it to make the motor easier to remove.

    • Firmly grasp the motor from the side where the screws were previously located and pull to remove it.

    • The white label on the side of the motor contains the model number of the blower motor which you may use as a reference when ordering a replacement, if necessary.

    • Insert the new motor into the motor housing.

    • Ensure the wires are at the front of the assembly.

    • Tighten the bolt at the shaft of the motor that you removed in the previous step.

    • You may wish to get the bolt started with your hands, and finish tightening with the wrench.

    • Ensure the flat surface is aligned with the screw hole prior to tightening with the wrench.

    • When assessing the fan blade, ensure you either keep your hands flat or wear gloves to avoid injury.

    • Utilize your reference photo when rewiring the unit.
