this is incorrect, since 1995 all Smart UPS have hot swappable batteries. no need to turn it off, that's the whole point of it being in the front of the device - https://www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA303216/

After hot swapping the battery replacement my replace battery LED is still lit. How do I reset that?
You can press and hold the power button for a few seconds to manually run a self-test or just wait until it reaches the next scheduled self-test (every 7 or 14 days depending on configuration). It is recommended to wait at least 24 hours before performing the self test as the new battery needs time to reach capacity.
