General
The Volkswagen New Beetle was a compact car produced by the German automaker Volkswagen. It was introduced in 1997 as a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Volkswagen Beetle, which was originally produced from the late 1930s to 2003. The New Beetle was designed to capture the retro and nostalgic essence of the original Beetle while incorporating modern automotive technology and safety features.
The New Beetle featured a distinctive, rounded, and bulbous shape, similar to the original Beetle, and it was available in various body styles, including a coupe and a convertible. It shared its platform with the Volkswagen Golf and Jetta, providing a more contemporary driving experience compared to the original Beetle.
Volkswagen produced the New Beetle from 1997 to 2011. In 2011, the company discontinued the New Beetle and replaced it with the Volkswagen Beetle, a design that was a closer homage to the original Beetle.
