Background and Identification
Toaster ovens are small electric ovens with a front door, wire rack, and removable baking pan. To toast bread with a toaster oven, slices of bread are placed horizontally on the rack. When the toast is done, the toaster turns off, but in most cases the door must be opened manually.
Some higher-end, larger toaster ovens offer a bake setting that allows the user to adjust the temperature similar to how they would using a full-size oven. This setting enables the toaster oven to be used essentially the same as a full-size oven, but, of course, with less available space. A benefit of using a toaster oven to bake something instead of a full-size oven is that it won’t heat up the house nearly as much, which is especially useful during hot summer months. Alternatively, using a full-size oven can be a great way to warm up the kitchen during a chilly winter day.
Conveyor toasters have a bit of a different set-up from traditional toaster ovens. They use a conveyor system to transport toast through the toasting mechanism. They are usually used in professional cooking settings like catering where lots of toast is needed.
Toaster ovens are box-like in shape and designed to sit flat on a kitchen countertop or table. They include a power cord, control panel, door, and internal oven chamber. Toaster ovens are commonly black or silver in color. They are made by a variety of manufacturers, including Black & Decker, Cuisinart, Breville, Oster, etc.
