The device was developed by Sonos, a home sound system manufacturer and the initial retail price began at about $499. This Sonos product is widely known as a reliable product.
This model can be identified by the grey label located on the back, lower center of the speaker. The model number "Play 5", is differentiating from the grey label, due to its large white lettering.
The Sonos Play 5 is a compact, sleek speaker unit that plays wireless streaming music from your favorite online services such as Pandora and Spotify. Compared to it's earlier models, Play 5 delivers a deeper bass, and optional color choices (silver, black. grey, & white). There are more line inputs to allow for a wider range of use, ie.; game consoles, tape decks, DJ equipment, etc...
In comparison to the earlier models, this speaker delivers true surround sound with an additional 3 more Class-D digital amplifiers perfectly tuned and in-sync with three more crisp tweeters and three dedicated mid-woofers. The connectivity is seamless and works on a WiFi network with any 802.11b/g, 2.4GHz router. This incredible sound system can be enjoyed across a number of operating systems such as, Windows XP SP3, Mac OX X 10.7 or greater, and NAS.
