Background and Identification
An oscilloscope is an electronic testing instrument which can display an electrical signal on a graphical interface for analysis by the user. The device usually plots the signal as a function of time, with the Y-axis corresponding to voltage and the X-axis to time. The waveform produced can then be analyzed for things like amplitude, frequency, or distortion. Oscilloscopes are widely used across many fields, but the most common use case is for the maintenance of electrical equipment.
