Background and Identification

Oakley, Inc. designs, develops, and manufactures sports performance equipment and lifestyle pieces including sunglasses, ski/snowboard goggles, sports visors, watches, apparel, backpacks, shoes, optical frames, and other accessories. Oakley is a subsidiary of Luxottica, an Italian corporate giant based in Milan. Oakley was founded by James Jannard in 1975 and named the company after his English Setter, “Oakley Anne.”

The first Oakley sunglasses, released in 1984 and called the Factory Pilot Eyeshades, were sport-oriented sunglasses that resembled goggles. In 1985, the Oakley Frogskin sunglasses were released with a casual style.

The Oakley Penny X-Metal sunglasses are designed for smaller faces and feature a spring-hinge mechanism that is designed to provide fitted comfort. The X-Metal sunglasses include changeable nose bombs and earsocks that increase grip with perspiration. Each pair of Oakley Penny X-Metal sunglasses is laser-engraved with a unique serial number.

Oakley Penny sunglasses were first sold in June 2001. Since then, they have been sold in a range of colors, including Copper with Black Iridium, Polished Black Iridium, Emerald Iridium, Titanium Ice Iridium, Titanium with Black Iridium, and X-Metal with Ruby Iridium. The Oakley Penny X-Metal sunglasses were sold between 2001 and 2003 for USD $400. They can be identified by SKU 04-135.
