Background and Identification
The Mr. Christmas Musical Carousel is based off of the New York World’s Fair Carousel (also known as the Flushing Meadows Carousel) in 1964-1965. Although a late addition to the World’s Fair (so late in fact that it wasn’t featured in the World’s Fair magazine), the World’s Fair Carousel was an amusement park ride built to celebrate the progression of humanity. The World’s Fair Carousel moved slightly from its original location but can still be found at Coney Island. Known for its cultural significance and ties to fostering international relationships, it’s no wonder that the artifacts and other notable symbols of the World’s Fair are culturally preserved and can now be found in many forms of art and design.
Mr. Christmas is a company that manufactures and produces musical and mechanical decorations for the holiday season, specifically the Christmas holiday. Since 1933, the Hermanson family has been creating unique holiday decorations for homes all over the world.
The Mr. Christmas Musical Carousel is capable of spinning and playing holiday music. The decoration is also designed to show that each individual carousel horse mimics the vertical movements of the actual New York World’s Fair Carousel.
