Background and Identification

Established in 1921, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (or MELCO for short) is a Japanese multinational electronics manufacturer branched under the overall management group, the Mitsubishi Group. Mitsubishi Electric manufactures consumer electronics as well as architectural equipment. The company is also one of the largest producers of photovoltaic panels, or commonly known as solar panels.

Mitsubishi Electric is mostly known for its televisions. The most notable products by the company are the large screen HDTVs, and they compete with other television manufacturers such as Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, Sony, LG, etc. Mitsubishi Electric continued producing CRT televisions until 2001 and LCD TVs until 2008, and stopped manufacturing consumer televisions altogether in the final months of 2012.

Possibly and quite literally the largest product by Mitsubishi Electric is the Diamond Vision display. The Diamond Vision, created by Diamond Vision Systems, is a display used for indoor and outdoor sports venues and commercial applications. Just in the United States, Diamond Vision displays are used in the following locations: Dodger Stadium (1980), JFK Stadium, Wembley Stadium, Caesars Palace, Turner Field, AT&T Stadium, Times Square, and Guarantee Rate Field. These displays became so popular that in 2012, the Diamond Vision Systems won an Emmy Award for Pioneering Development of Large-Venue Displays. Later on, the company became the official large outdoor video display provider of the PGA Tour.
