Background and Identification
An oscilloscope, also called a scope or o-scope is an electronic test instrument. It’s an important diagnostic tool in many industries but especially in the medical profession. It may be used to monitor heart activity or measure brain waves for example.
The oscilloscope shows varying signal voltages, in a waveform on a monitor. It can be analyzed by the different parts of the wave including the amplitude, frequency, rise time, time interval, distortion, and others.
The early oscilloscopes used cathode ray tubes as their display but have since mostly replaced these with digital displays called Digital Storage Oscilloscopes.
