Background and Identification
Thinkpad is a line of business-oriented laptop computers and tablets designed and sold by Lenovo, and previously IBM. Lenovo Group Limited (shortened to Lenovo) is a Chinese technology company. Thinkpad products are generally known for their black, boxy designs which were initially modeled on the concept of a Japanese Bento lunchbox, which only reveals its contents when opened. The Thinkpad line was developed by IBM and first released in October 1992. During the 1990s, the Thinkpad line became a large success for IBM.
The Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet line was released in August 2011 with the original ThinkPad Tablet. The ThinkPad Tablet is a tablet computer made by Lenovo as part of its line of Android-based tablet devices. The ThinkPad Tablet is marketed towards business users, like the Thinkpad laptop line. The ThinkPad Tablet includes business-oriented features like anti-theft software, the ability to remotely disable the tablet, SD card encryption, layered data encryption, and Cisco Virtual Private Network (VPN).
The ThinkPad Tablet 2 was released in October 2012 and runs the Windows 8 Professional operating system. It can run any desktop software compatible with Windows 8. The ThinkPad 8 was released in January 2014 with an 8.3-inch display. The ThinkPad 8 also runs on the Windows 8 operating system. The ThinkPad 10 was released in the summer of 2014 along with accessories like a docking station and external detachable magnetic keyboards.
