Background
Released in 2009, the Kindle DX is Amazon's large E-Ink reader. The DX features a 9.7 inch E-Ink display, physical keyboard, and text-to-speech capability (using either the 3.5 mm headphone jack or the built-in down-firing speaker). The international edition comes with 3G cellular support via Amazon Whispernet, requiring no subscription. The DX does not support WI-Fi or Bluetooth. It is succeeded by the Kindle DX 2, or DX Graphite.
