Background
The Hilti Diamond Grinder DG 150 was released in 2017 and discontinued shortly after the DGH 150 was released in 2021. The DG 150 is a special concrete grinder used in construction projects by concrete finishers for polishing hard concrete surfaces, removing paint and coatings. The Hilti Diamond Grinder is available in the North American, South American, European, Asian, African, and Australian markets. The retail price that was listed on the Hilti manufacturer’s site in 2017 was CAD$4,000.00.
The DG 150 diamond grinder is more durable and has a larger motor compared to a traditional angle grinder which allows it to easily remove rough concrete surfaces. The Hilti diamond grinder has two speed settings: Setting I, has a maximum speed of 4700 RPM. This setting is mainly used for grinding soft materials such as paint coatings on cement rendering. Setting II, has a maximum speed of 6600 RPM and is used for grinding hard mineral materials such as concrete, screed or rock. It also has a built-in vacuum installed into the grinder so dust particles can travel away from the surface that is being polished.
The DG 150 device has no recorded failures or manufacturer recalls. Hilti provides a 20-year materials and workmanship warranty and 2-year wear and tear coverage. The component most prone to failure is the diamond cup wheel which will need to be replaced after extended use.
