(Windows) Installing a HP LaserJet Printer using the HP UPD
Background and Identification
HP LaserJet is a brand of laser printers manufactured by HP. The original HP LaserJet was actually the first desktop laser printer in the world, introduced in 1984. Laser printing is a process that was developed in the 1970s, and eventually replaced other forms of printing such as dot-matrix or daisy-wheel impact printing. Laser printers work by passing a laser repeatedly over a negatively charged cylinder to create an ‘image’ out of charges. The cylinder, usually called a drum, then collects electrically charged ink (toner), and then presses it to the paper, creating the image. Finally, the paper and ink are both heated to fuse them together. This process makes high resolution images, and can cope with a huge variety of patterns, allowing people to print many different fonts and images.
The LaserJet family of printers includes printers with the brands or model numbers including LaserJet, LaserJet Pro, Color LaserJet, P, M, CP, and CM. This category can provide support and troubleshooting for the following models of HP LaserJet printer:
