General

The Pixel Watch is a line of Wear OS smartwatches designed, developed, and marketed by Google as part of the Google Pixel product line.

Google's journey into the smartwatch market began as early as July 2016, with two Pixel-branded smartwatches in development. However, these models were canceled before release due to concerns from hardware chief Rick Osterloh that they did not align well with other Pixel devices.

Development of a new Pixel-branded watch resumed after Google's acquisition of Fitbit in 2021. The original Pixel Watch, launched in October 2022, represents Google's first significant step into the smartwatch market under its own brand. This watch integrates Google's Wear OS, offering functionalities such as fitness tracking, notifications, and integration with Google services like Google Assistant, Maps, and Wallet. Additionally, it features Fitbit's health and fitness tracking capabilities, benefiting from the acquisition.
