Background
The Garmin InReach Explorer Plus is a GPS tracker, navigation tool, SOS device, and 2-way satellite communicator that is able to send and receive email and SMS messages via satellite, even when out of range of cell phone towers and wireless networks. It is commonly used by backcountry enthusiasts as a way to communicate with Search and Rescue agencies and loved ones back home. The Garmin InReach Explorer Plus is also able to track and share the trails taken on a hike in real-time. The main purpose of the Garmin InReach Explorer Plus is safety. There have been no known manufacturer recalls on this model at this time. The known failure modes of the Garmin inReach Explorer Plus are environments with temperatures outside of its operating temperature range.

Identification
To identify the device, first identify the red orange color, above the screen the company name should be inscribed: Garmin. Below the screen, the device model should also be inscribed: InReach Explorer+. If the name of the device is scratched off or missing, the device name can also be found within the settings or by looking up the serial number on the back of the device.
