Background

The Cricut Explore Air 2, released in October of 2016, is used to cut sheet materials for craft projects. This device is placed upon a tabletop or other flat surface to complete whatever project the user desires. It is compatible with a wide variety of accessories, including scoring styluses, pens, and a multitude of blades, to create projects ranging from cards to clothing and so much more.

The Cricut Explore Air 2, model number CXPL202, weighs 10.98 pounds and is 22.17" (L) by 7.01" (W) by 5.91" (H). It has a plastic exterior shell with metal parts, including the motor carriage, blade, and roller bars, on the interior.

Cricut machines have offered at-home crafters a relatively compact, high-tech cutting machine since the original model's release in 2003. The Cricut Explore Air 2 is one of five models in the Cricut's "Explore" series, beginning with the Explore Air One's release in 2015. The cutting speed is one improvement from the Explore Air One, which allows users can finish tasks more rapidly. The fine-point blade that comes with the Explore Air 2 is ideal for precisely cutting minute details and complicated patterns.  The inclusion of a dual carriage system, which enables the machine to sketch and cut at the same time, is another improvement. When working on multi-step projects, this function helps to save time and streamline the crafting process.

The Cricut Explore Air 2 is used along with Design Space, Cricut’s design program. Design Space can be used on both computers through downloaded software, and mobile devices through an app. The machine is connected to whichever device the user chooses, either through Bluetooth or a USB cord, and it cuts whichever designs are uploaded to Design Space.

Identification

The Cricut Explore Air 2 comes in a variety of colors, including white, purple, green, and blue. When looking at the device from the front, there are 2 doors – one attached to the top and one attached to the base – that should easily open. An adjustable dial can be found on the right side with three small, circular buttons beneath it, as well as a power button located just above the dial. On the left side of the device, there is a small cavity positioned above the cartridge port and the button labelled “open.” The interior contains the device’s cutting mechanism as well as a pair of roller bars. The device’s power cord and USB port are located on the back side. The model number, CXPL202, and serial number can be found printed on a sticker on the bottom of the machine. It is the only sticker located there.
