Background and Identification

The Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, officially registered for copyright as “The Little People’” are sold by Xavier Roberts. The dolls are soft sculptured—crafted with nonrigid materials such as cloth, foam, rubber, plastic, etc. There are three categories of dolls: Toy Cabbage Patch Kids, Exclusive Cabbage Patch Kids, and Hand-stitched Original Cabbage Patch Kids. The dolls are not purchased, but "‘adopted” from the “Babyland General Hospital” located in Cleveland, Georgia, and is considered the birthplace of the dolls. Since their creation, there have been many variations of the dolls produced by different toy brands. There have also been many international variations.

Porcelain Cabbage Patch Kids with a rigid cloth body and porcelain legs, arms, and head, are sold by Danbury Mint through direct mailing.

Talking Cabbage Patch Kids were an extension to the line of dolls introduced by Coleco.
