Black and Decker Wizard RT550 Disassembly
Tools
These are some common tools used to work on this device. You might not need every tool for every procedure.
Background and Identification
The Wizard RT550 is a rotary tool that can be used for many different tasks. It has a spinning tip powered by a motor, which is compatible with a variety of different attachments for grinding, sanding, drilling, polishing, and more. Rotary tools are sometimes referred to as die grinders because the two are so similar. There isn’t really a set rule for which devices are rotary tools and which are die grinders. However, in general the term ‘die grinder’ usually refers to a pneumatic (pressurized air-powered) tool, while a rotary tool is usually electrically powered and more lightweight.
The Wizard RT550 is one of three similar rotary tools: the RT550, the RT555, and the RT560. All three of these rotary tools share the same instruction manual, although they are slightly different. The RT550 has six variable speed options. It is important to match the task that you are doing with the Wizard RT550 to an appropriate speed. If the tool is moving too slowly, it could damage both the tool and the material. If it is moving too quickly, the tool will wear down more quickly, and similar damage may occur. Black and Decker offer recommended speeds for different applications of the Wizard RT550 in the instruction manual.
