Background and Identification
Audiometry is a branch of medicine involving the ability to hear. A sub-branch of audiology, audiometry covers the ability to distinguish sound intensity, variations in pitch and tone, and speech from background noise.
The device most commonly used in audiometry is the audiometer, which can then be logged on an audiogram. The results of an audiogram can be used to diagnose hearing loss, diseases of the ear, issues with acoustic reflex, or problems with one’s otoacoustic emissions.
