Background and Identification
Alphasmart was a line of battery-powered, word-processing, portable keyboards created by NEO Direct, Inc., which was formerly called Renaissance Learning, Inc., which was formerly called AlphaSmart, Inc., which was formerly called Intelligent Peripheral Devices, Inc. The first Alphasmart was released in 1993. designed for students, professionals, and parents to allow typing and work-processing on the go. This model, the Alphasmart Neo, was released in August 2004 and could hold over 200 pages of text which was simply unheard of at the time. This model was an improvement from the critically acclaimed 3000 model because you could change the font and point sizes. The Neo ran a new and improved operating system, allowing the user to let the words flow from their fingers tips.
The Alphasmart Neo is all black, with an average-sized keyboard, with a protruding small screen coming out of the top. The “NEO by Alphasmart” logo is at the bottom right of the screen. The user tutorials and serial number are on the back of the NEO. The battery cover is also located on the back case, with a small black slider covering them. Small black rubber and plastic legs can also be found on the back.
